Fusor too hot for you?  Get a hole
There came a point where energies within the fusor were producing some dangerous particles, dangerous primarily because of the speed (energy,)  at which they were accelerated from within the fusor;  so a hole in the floor was made and a vertical shaft was dug; the shaft was equipped with a lift like service stations use, a platform at the top would hold the device under test.
